A simple tool to feel better: magic mineral broth

Patients (and friends) often ask me what they should be doing at home to improve their health. They want to know if there is a new supplement worth taking or a special diet they should try out. Sometimes there is! But often, the answer is more simple.

I want to offer one suggestion to help nurture yourself: drink a cup of Magic Mineral Broth every day.

As a general rule of thumb, I encourage everyone to eat a diet loaded with a colorful array of plants, and build from there. It’s a great way to get vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and most of the other good stuff our bodies need to thrive. It’s pretty much a guarantee—the more plants in your diet, the better your body will feel.

But it’s not always easy to do that! Many of us don’t have time to cook most meals from scratch all the time, or just don’t feel at home in the kitchen. Some of my patients just plain don’t like vegetables.

Magic Mineral Broth (created by the chef and author Rebecca Katz) is a wonderful recipe to try out if you’re looking for an easy way to get more goodness into your diet. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare, and then you can just leave it on the stove to simmer by itself. It’s packed with a rainbow of plants, chock full of vitamins and minerals, and tastes like a hug. While it makes a great base for a soup or a stew, I love to drink it on its own.

It’s also my go-to suggestion for anyone who’s feeling sick or wants to cleanse. When you make Magic Mineral Broth, freeze some in quart jars (tempered glass Mason jars are available) so you can defrost and have some ready at the first sign of a sniffle. A lifesaver!

I suggest making a big pot on Saturday or Sunday, so you can have some ready all week. If you can’t find allspice berries, a dash of powdered allspice works fine :)

Enjoy!
